Playa Flamingo, Costa Rica – November 14

Yesterday we met a biologist named Larry at Playa Buena. He told us we would have a good chance to see a Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl in the morning. Went back to Playa Buena this morning, but had no luck seeing the owl. We did see a Gray Hawk, Squirrel Cuckoo and an actual squirrel – a big one.

Playa Coco is an over-developed American ex-pat ghetto. Great place if you like bars that advertise happy hour from 11am to 7pm. While in Coco we filled our water tank with bottled water. The price for water is double what we paid in other countries.

Another chore we were able to take of was getting the truck and camper washed. It hadn’t been washed since Oaxaca, Mexico!

We ended our driving day at Playa Flamingo – which is a collection of high end condominium projects and hotels. We parked for the night in front of a big hotel on one side of the road and the beach on the other.

The sunset was glorious. About an hour later the “super moon” came up. I expected guests from the hotel would be on the beach watching a spectacle that won’t happen for 70 years, but there were none. Chris and I had the beach to ourselves.
