Ed. Note: There will be no more posts until I can find decent WIFI.
On the way out of San Cristóbal de las Casas we stocked up on supplies at a Chedraui store – a Walmart like emporium.
Not far out of town we stopped to visit a large cave. As usual, Lonely Planet hyped the attraction.
Our destination for the day was the waterfalls at El Chiflón, about 40 km from SCDLC. El Chiflón sits at about 700 meters or 2,100′. It was warm and humid.
Because we visited during the rainy season, the water in the river was the color of milk chocolate. To the top of the main waterfall was a steep 750+ meters walk uphill. To make matters worse, once we got to the base of the fall it was almost totally obscured by spray – major bummer. We turned back there.
On the walk back Chris spotted Plain Chachalacas (life bird) and a White-Throated Magpie-Jay (trip bird).
We met a couple from Saratoga!
Sometimes Mexico is just plain annoying. For example, when we got back to our camper we were drenched in sweat. But no problema, there were showers we could use. A group of Mexican tourists – two women and three children – were in the shower room before us. We waited and waited for them to finish. When we finally got into the shower room we found out what took them so long – four shower stalls but only one with a working shower. And the water was freeeeezing.
For about $4 we were allowed to camp for the night.
